Modelling, Analysis and Performance of a Low Inertia AC-DC Microgrid

In a world where the energy crisis is becoming overwhelming, demand for integrating renewable sources increasing and forming microgrids an essential solution. The new microgrid systems, which depend mainly on instead of conventional synchronous generators, come with low inertia concern. This paper proposes virtual controller based high-pass filter (HPF) to support frequency AC while maintaining DC voltage within nominal ranges in cases contingencies. proposed system encounters AC-DC source alongside constant power load resistive loads, side, generator used present grid dynamic loads static loads. state-space linearized model developed verified using Matlab Simulink. response compared low-pas (LPF)-based controller. Moreover, effect changing system’s parameters eigenvalues investigated.
